Thought for Today

In the book, “Radical Acceptance: Embracing Your Life With the Heart of a Buddha,” Tara Brach says,  “Feeling compassion for ourselves in no way releases us from responsibility for our actions. Rather, it releases us from the self-hatred that prevents us from responding to our life with clarity and balance.”

“Is That Me Yelling?”

It was a pleasure to speak with to the staff at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Pinole, Ca. on May 8th. The lunch time talk  is an important “wellness” approach for parents who are often too busy to read books or go to classes. If you would like me to come to your company for a lunch time talk, give me a call. And when you get home from work today, spend a few minutes connecting with your child before you start dinner.

Awareness to change policies that impact all of us and our planet

Woke up today after attending a talk by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche (Tibetan Sound Healing) and sensed once again that it’s individual transformation that has to happen before we can transform our government. Once we the people become aware of our fear, anger, greed, and other emotions that cloud us, then we will have the space to open our hearts, and put our understanding into practice. Lets work for things like yoga, music, and art in the schools, social emotional focus in pre-school, healing for our veterans, workplace equity and wellness, and work towards policies like Bhutan’s focus on Gross National Happiness.

Fostering Creativity in Kids

We often think of creativity as being a personality trait rather than a skill that we can foster in our children. Which is it, really? Rona and I discuss how we can foster the ability to innovate in our kids—and why we might want to do this. Aired: March 2013
